I've been doing some thinking about the english words that are used to describe the chinese martial arts. Nowadays, when people say "wushu," what they really mean is contemporary wushu, and when they say "kung fu," what they mean is wushu in general. "Kung fu" technically means something like 'hard work'... so there was some confusion when I told my aunt in Taiwan that I was taking 'kung fu.'
